A Key Measure of Success
November 5, 2009

When you ask people what they want most from their electric utility, many will say low rates and an increasing number will say green energy. But if their lights go out, all want the same thing – getting them back on as soon as possible.

A measure of our success is the extent to which our customers have come to expect a high standard of reliability from us, around the clock and throughout the year.

Last week, for the fourth time in five years, PSE&G received the National Reliability Excellence Award, given annually by industry experts to the utility that achieves superior results in delivering reliable electric service to its customers. In addition, PSE&G won the reliability award for the Mid-Atlantic region for the eighth straight year.

Our employees have continued to achieve exemplary results on a broad range of safety and reliability measures.

PSE&G has again earned the National Reliability Excellence Award for superior electric delivery service to its customers.

Year in and out, it is a hallmark of gas operations to excel with efforts such as responding to 99.9 percent of gas leak calls within one hour. This past winter, our employees met the demands of a new peak gas-system delivery day to help assure the comfort and safety of our customers.

These and other efforts underscore PSE&G’s longstanding commitment to deliver safe, reliable and affordable electric and gas service to homes and businesses in hundreds of communities across New Jersey. They reflect the daily dedication of our employees to operational excellence, and speak to our responsibility to maintain the public’s trust.

Yet there’s no resting on our laurels. Reliability must be a continuing priority if our nation and state are to make headway on significant challenges such as climate change and energy independence while getting the economy growing again. In the years ahead, we look forward to working with Governor-elect Chris Christie to help keep the lights on and the gas flowing in New Jersey.

This will require policies that encourage investment and the development of new reliability resources. There can be no neglecting essential bread-and-butter infrastructure, including power plants able to run as needed to meet customer load, and world-class transmission and distribution networks to move the power safely and reliably.

Providing safe, reliable, economic and green energy, where and when needed, is the test by which we expect to be measured and by which we will continue to measure ourselves. As a company known as Public Service, we can ask for nothing less.
