April 2, 2009 - A Very Green Celebration

A generation ago, thousands of people came together to celebrate the first Earth Day. Over the years, Earth Day has encouraged millions of people to get involved and make a difference for the environment.

An engaged, educated public is vitally important if we are to meet the environmental challenges of our time. Climate change is the biggest challenge of all. We will need everyone involved to green the future – in our cities, suburbs and rural communities.

This weekend’s PSEG GreenFest 2009 is designed to energize action across New Jersey to help make our world cleaner, safer and healthier. We hope you will join us at this premier event for green activities in our state.

An engaged, educated public is vitally important if we are to meet the environmental challenges of our time.

The GreenFest will take place Saturday and Sunday (April 3, 4 and 5) at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset. Leaders, experts and celebrities will be on hand to share their ideas about steps that you, your family or business can take to reduce your carbon footprint. More than 125 exhibits will showcase green products, services and information. You can choose from programs on a vast array of topics – from lifestyle, home and garden, to construction, business, energy and conservation. Reaching young people is a key to changing the world for the better. PSEG GreenFest 2009 will feature family entertainment, educational programs, interactive workshops and special performances for children. There will be many opportunities for children to try their hand at eco-friendly activities and learn about the meaning of “green” while having fun.

There will be things for businesses, too. Indeed, a goal of PSEG GreenFest 2009 is to increase awareness of the many growth opportunities that will arise from greening the economy – and greening the workforce.

A strong, vibrant clean energy economy can be a pathway to a brighter future – with additional good jobs and sustainable growth. Wouldn’t it be terrific if New Jersey became one of the leading places where it happened?

It can happen if enough of us show we care and make a difference for the environment. The first Earth Day started something of lasting significance. Similarly, the environmental efforts of today can plant seeds for a sustainable future to benefit generations to come. We can all be part of the solution. But we need to act now.

Let’s make this springtime the start of something wonderful for our state, communities and families.
