PSE&G Prepared for Today’s Expected Storm - July 26, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.

• PSE&G is closely monitoring weather conditions today and has all available personnel and supplies on hand to ensure that any storm-related emergencies are handled safely and promptly.

• Strong winds can increase the possibility of downed wires and associated power outages. Customers are advised to stay away from all downed power lines. Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything that it might be in contact with.

• Customers are asked to report downed wires immediately. Please call 800-436-7734 to report the street location as well as the nearest cross street.

• If you experience a power outage, please call PSE&G’s Customer Service line: 1-800-436-PSEG.

• Customers with a handheld device, or who are at an alternate location with power, can also report power outages and view the status of their outage by logging in to My Account at www.pseg.com. To do so, Log In now or register.

• General outage activity throughout our service territory is available online at www.pseg.com/outagecenter and updates are posted on pseg.com during severe weather.

• Customers can also monitor restoration progress by signing up and following us on our Twitter channel at http://twitter.com/psegdelivers.

In anticipation of possible power outages, PSE&G offers the following storm tips:

1. Keep on-hand a working battery-operated radio or TV, flashlights for everyone in the family and a supply of fresh batteries.

2. If you or a family member relies on electricity for life-sustaining equipment, you should make alternate arrangements in the event of electric service interruption.

3. Put refrigerator and freezer at coldest settings now. Keep a blanket handy to throw over these appliances for added insulation. If electricity is interrupted, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. Food will stay frozen between 36 and 48 hours in a fully-loaded freezer (24 hours in a half-full freezer) if the door is kept closed.

4. Know how to open and shut your garage door without the electric opener. Have a hand-operated can opener handy. Remember, electric sump pumps will not operate.

5. Remember that cordless phones do not operate if the power is out. It's a good idea to charge your cell phone.
