This report contains information on the economic, environmental and social performance of PSEG and its subsidiaries during 2007 and 2008. It is PSEG’s first Corporate Sustainability Report. In previous years we have published separate financial, environmental and corporate citizenship reports. This year we have chosen to produce a Corporate Sustainability Report to consolidate some of this information.
Our performance and reporting have resulted in PSEG being named to the 2008 Dow Jones Sustainability Index – North America. A widely recognized index that evaluates accomplishments by major corporations through the world, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index measures the quality of a company’s strategy and management and its performance in dealing with opportunities and risks from economic, environmental and social developments, and selects leading companies for investment purposes.
In response to stakeholder comments encouraging us to reduce the use of energy and natural resources, and in order to facilitate updates, we are offering this report exclusively on-line.
To determine the materiality of topics included in this report, we considered: feedback regarding our 2007 Environmental Leadership Report; input from investors, customers and other stakeholders; industry best practices; and key performance metrics tracked by our corporate scorecard.
This is our first complete report to be prepared in general accordance the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines Version 3.0. At PSEG we recognize the importance of transparent reporting and for this report we are presenting a list of GRI indicators that can be found on the report homepage. We are currently working toward meeting the GRI reporting protocols. We believe we meet application level B.
More information about The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and its framework for the sustainability reporting can be found at www.globalreporting.org.
