Payment Assistance Programs

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) |
| Description |
LIHEAP helps low-income people pay their winter heating bills. You may qualify even if your heat is included in the rent. To be elibible, your household income does not exceed the amounts allowed in the following household income table.

*Please note that with one application you can apply for LIHEAP & USF. You may be eligible for both programs.

NJ Universal Service Fund (USF) |
| Description |
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities created the Universal Service Fund (USF), which helps make energy bills more affordable for low-income customers. If you're eligible, USF can lower the amount you have to pay for your gas and electric bills. |

*USF accepts applications all year.
*Please note that with one application you can apply for LIHEAP & USF. You may be eligible for both programs.

NJ Lifeline Credit Program |
| Description |
NJ Lifeline is a $225 yearly credit for your electric or gas bill. You must be 65 years old, or a disabled adult at least 18 years old who is receiving Social Security Disability benefits. Your income must be under $24,432 for a single person or $29,956 for a married couple. If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) you do not need to apply, your Lifeline benefit is in your monthly SSI check. Call the toll free number to receive an application.

NJ SHARES |
| Description |
New Jersey SHARES, Inc. is an energy-assistance program that assists households who do not qualify for federal or state energy programs and whose income does not exceed 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Each client fills out an electronic application with the assistance of a local community-based organization. New Jersey SHARES partners with more than 275 organizations statewide. Eligibility is determined by income and household size. New Jersey SHARES grant maximums are $700 for heating and $300 for electric service grants. Clients heating with electric can received up to $700 on their electric heat account. Grants are distributed year-round based on funding availability.

| Description |
Many homes and apartments have high heating costs because of heat loss due to poor insulation or inefficient heating systems. If you meet the annual income guidelines below, help may be available to make your home more comfortable and to lower your heating costs. |

| Description |
PSE&G calculates your Equal Payment amount by dividing your previous year's energy usage into 12 equal monthly payments. Your account will be reviewed every 6 months. If your energy use changes and your payment amount needs to be revised up or down, you will be notified. |

Federal & State Earned Income Tax Credit |
| Description |
Do you work hard, but don’t earn a high income? You may qualify for the Federal and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The amount of the EITC depends on your total earnings and family size. To get the state credit, you must file a federal tax form, be eligible for the federal EITC and file a state income tax return. |

| Description |
Verizon New Jersey’s Communications Lifeline provides discounted local telephone service for eligible low-income residents and seniors. Through Link Up America, eligible new Verizon customers receive a 50% discount on the initial phone connection charge, with the remaining 50% paid in 12 monthly installments. Together, these services provide an important community service helping to ensure that no New Jersey resident is without a phone. |
